Rodriguez and Tocke – North American Champions

The 2017 Snipe North Americans was a spectacular event with three days of ocean racing off of Fort Lauderdale.  Rodriguez and Tocke won all eight races in the series, dominating in the big breeze and big waves on days one and two and also in the lighter winds and flatter water on the final day.  Augie Diaz and Eddy Mintzias finished second and Jensen McTighe and Andre Guaragna placed third.  Canada, Ecuador, Peru, Puerto Rico, and the Bahamas were represented at the Championship.

Summer on the Adriatic

After 6 years of full-time sailing in the RSX, FX and Snipe Classes, Kathleen took a reprieve and ventured into other watersport activities. Summer started with two second place finishes, first at the Austrian Snipe Grand Prix and then at the Trofeo Ferin.  Shortly after, she settled into the seafront city of Trieste and within the first week, competed in an open-water 1 mile swim and continued swimming throughout the summer in the sea and working on speed and technique in one of Italy’s top  […]

Second Place at Trofeo Ferin – Trieste, Italy

Kathleen, sailing with  local crew Eleonora Zuzic, finished second at the Trofeo Ferin in Trieste, Italy.  The two day regatta was hosted by the Societa Triestine della Vela.   “The regatta was a great opportunity to practice against some of the top Snipe sailors in Italy.  The winds were light and sharing the race course with the Star fleet added an additional tactical dimension to our race strategy”, said Tocke.  “The battle for first with Barbaross/Contin in the last race was fun and it was  […]

Old Season, New Season

The trials for the US Olympic Team concluded for the windsurfing class in Palma, Mallorca, with Kathleen finishing third.  In Olympic sailing, only the winner of the Trials earns a spot for the Games – one representative per country.  Marion Lepert (San Francisco), a talent in the strong winds seen in Palma this year, sailed an excellent regatta, winning the trials.  Farrah Hall (Annapolis), who represented the US in London in 2012, finished second. “My goal was to perform my best and enjoy the experience,”  […]

Although Rio has received a considerable amount of negative press concerning the Olympic sailing venue and the waters of Guanabara Bay, many sailors,  […]

Poster Girls!

Quantum Sails is one of the biggest sail makers in the world.  Quantum also happens to design some of the fastest Snipe sails, so it was only fitting that the company featured the Snipe on their fleet of vehicles.  The Quantum Team arrived in style at Key West Race Week with new poster girls gracing their van – Kathleen and crew Kate Sheehan racing in the Snipe Women’s Worlds in St. Petersburg where they finished in third.

Gearing up for the US Olympic Trials

Like most sports, the good guys make it look easy.  This holds true for Olympic windsurfing.  The level is so high and the field so deep, that getting to the top takes years of technical coaching, travel on the international circuit, and practice and speed testing with the best in the world – no small task.  With only fours years of windsurfing under her belt and having taken a year off to represent the USA in the 49er FX Olympic Class, Kathleen is maximizing her final months  […]
