Snipe Don Q Regatta Diaz & TockeThis Monday in San Diego, Kathleen and Augie Diaz qualified to represent the United States at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, July 10 – 19.  This is the second trip to the Games for the team.  They earned a silver medal in the last Games held in Mexico in 2011.  The Pan American Games is an International Olympic Committee (IOC) event held every four years in the year preceding the Olympic Games.   The US is only sends one boat per class to the Games.

Commenting on her qualification, Tocke said, “My first Games were amazing, something I wanted to qualify for since I was a kid. The sailing conditions weren’t great, but it was an honor to compete for the US.  And since I knew so many of the athletes from the other countries, it gave an incredible sense of international community. Since these Games will be held so close to home, it will be fun to have my family and friends sharing the experience.  I hope to make them proud again.”

Diaz and Tocke won the Trials which were held at the San Diego Yacht Club, October 11 – 13.  Seven races were completed in light winds and swell.  The team finished 10 points ahead of the second place team of Fretwell & Reidman (San Diego), discarding their worst score of third place
