Magic in Marsala – a windsurfing paradise

dueItaly is known for producing some of the World’s best Olympic windsurfers, so following her third place finish at the US Snipe Nationals in San Diego, Kathleen packed her bags and headed back to Sicily to the magical town of Marsala.  While Marsala is famous for it’s chicken dish and beautiful islands, it is also known for Italian windsurfer, Laura Linares.  For two weeks, the Linares family and the Societa Canottieri Marsala were gracious hosts.  Also in town for training and the annual Regata Zonale were the youth squad from Palermo as well as French sailor Helene Noesmoen and Veronica Fancuilli from Civitavecchia.

The stunning waters of Marsala offer a variety of conditions for training. In addition to incredible sailing, the girls found that the surrounding area also provides a veritable paradise to explore on rest days – cycling around the island of Favignana, snorkeling for ancient artifacts, exploring the historic salt flats with their windmills, and visiting the relaxing surfing beaches of Marsala and Trapani.
