Tocke & Quintero Win Snipe North Americans
Miami's Enrique Quintero and Kathleen Tocke dominated the fleet at the 2019 Snipe North Americans, never placing out of the top three. San Diego Yacht Club hosted the three-day event. Light to medium conditions prevailed over the course of the championship, but the teams never saw the typical, go right, San Diego wind, which allowed a nice mix up on the race course.
It was a small, but highly competitive fleet, with the top four teams all being World, National, or North American Champions. Quintero and Tocke, displayed excellent speed and angle on the upwinds, but were pushed hard by San Diego teams, Szabo/Waterbury and Hart/Escobar on the downwinds. "The swell can be very tricky in the lighter wind. Despite being heavier than us, George Sazbo had great consistent speed, particularly on the downwinds. Velocity differences around the race course made a big difference, so seeing the big picture and patiently connecting the dots made a all the difference. I think that's what we did well, said Tocke."
This was Tocke's sixth North American title and Quintero's first. Peter Commette, sailing with young San Diego newcomer, Allie Shand, placed second, and George Sazbo and Diana Waterbury rounded out the podium in third
